Why don't people want you to bleach YOUR skin?

I was just wondering why Sammy Sosa bleaching his skin is such big news..(I mean I kind of feel bad for him now) People say it's weird or that he looks scary but the truth is there are many different people in this world who look very different from each other so how can you say someone looks weird...doesn't that hurt people who might resemble him? and...I know... I.. know its harmful (apparently) but why all of a sudden does everybody give a crap about someone else's skin ..whether it harms his body or not I mean it is his skin...right?
